What happens to humanity in the backstory of Pokémon Pokopia?

Logs discovered by Ditto reveal that inexplicable phenomena gradually made the landscape hostile to life. Humanity eventually departed for space, but could not bring its Pokémon companions along. Instead, people stored Pokémon in a massive computer system designed to preserve them after the departure.

This explanation is more specific than saying that humans simply vanished. The story connects the empty world, the abandoned facilities, and the survival of Pokémon to a deliberate evacuation. The computer system could release selected Pokémon if it began to fail, helping explain why Pokémon later appear in the recovering environment.
