What happens to humanity before Pokémon Pokopia begins?

Before Pokémon Pokopia begins, humans leave Earth for outer space.

The game’s backstory explains that unexplained environmental changes make the landscape increasingly hostile to life. Humanity eventually departs the planet, leaving behind a world that is no longer suitable for people or Pokémon.

The departing humans cannot bring every Pokémon with them, so they store Pokémon in a massive computer system designed to survive after the evacuation. The system can release selected Pokémon if it begins to fail, helping explain why Pokémon remain in the abandoned world.

This story is different from a simple disappearance or ordinary migration. Pokopia presents the absence of humans as the result of a large-scale evacuation connected to environmental collapse, while Ditto’s reconstruction work gradually reveals the evidence left behind.
