What font is commonly used in the original Doge meme text?

The original Doge meme text is commonly presented in Comic Sans. Its colorful, floating captions are placed around a photograph of a Shiba Inu and written in deliberately broken English, often as fragments such as “much wow” or “so amaze.”

The best-known Doge image features Kabosu, a Shiba Inu photographed by her owner, Atsuko Sato. Sato posted the source photograph in 2010, and the meme developed its recognizable caption style as it spread online, especially during 2013. Comic Sans helped give the text its informal, homemade appearance and became strongly associated with the format.

This does not mean every image labeled Doge uses exactly the same typeface. Derivatives, parodies, and later graphics may use other fonts, but Comic Sans is the canonical answer for the original meme style. Doge’s popularity also helped inspire Dogecoin, a cryptocurrency launched in December 2013 and based on the meme’s Shiba Inu imagery.
