Pokémon Pokopia takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of the Kanto region. The familiar region has been transformed into a world abandoned by humans and made difficult for Pokémon to inhabit.
In the story, Ditto awakens in this damaged environment and discovers that humans and Pokémon have disappeared. It finds an old Pokédex belonging to its trainer, adopts a human-like form, and begins helping restore habitats. Professor Tangrowth studies the environment while trying to understand why the world was abandoned.
Kanto is the setting of the original Pokémon games, Pokémon Red and Blue, and is home to the first generation of Pokémon. Pokopia does not simply recreate the region as it appeared in those games. Instead, it uses Kanto as the foundation for a future-looking mystery involving environmental collapse, abandoned technology, and humanity’s departure into space.
This makes the setting easy to confuse with other Pokémon regions. Johto, Hoenn, and Paldea belong to different generations and are not the named setting of Pokopia’s post-apocalyptic plot.
