The Daily Prophet is the leading wizarding newspaper in the United Kingdom in J.K. Rowling’s fictional world.
It appears throughout the Harry Potter books as a major source of news for witches and wizards. The newspaper reports on Ministry of Magic affairs, Hogwarts events, criminal investigations and public reactions to Voldemort’s return. Its offices are located in London, according to the series’ fictional setting.
The paper is not portrayed as consistently reliable. During the later books, its coverage reflects pressure from the Ministry of Magic and helps spread official versions of events. This makes it a recurring example of how institutions can shape public opinion in the wizarding world.
The Quibbler is a different publication, edited by Xenophilius Lovegood and known for unusual stories. Witch Weekly is a magazine rather than the principal daily newspaper. These names are common alternatives, but only The Daily Prophet fits the question’s description.
