What fictional land is visited by Ransom in C.S. Lewis’s novel Perelandra?

The story behind the answer

Perelandra is the fictional land and planet visited by Ransom in C.S. Lewis’s novel Perelandra.

Published in 1943, the second book of Lewis’s Space Trilogy sends Elwin Ransom to Perelandra, a world corresponding to Venus. The planet is largely covered by ocean, with floating islands that shift across the water. Ransom encounters the Green Lady, the world’s first woman, and must confront a demonic tempter who seeks to corrupt her.

The title is the planet’s name in its native language, while “Venus” is the name used in the Solar System of Ransom’s origin. The first trilogy novel, Out of the Silent Planet, takes place on Malacandra, Lewis’s name for Mars. The third, That Hideous Strength, returns to Earth and shifts toward a dystopian, terrestrial setting.
