What fictional corporation runs the Animus in the modern-day story of Assassin's Creed?

The fictional corporation that runs the Animus in Assassin's Creed's modern-day story is Abstergo Industries. Abstergo is the public-facing corporation associated with the Templars, the series' long-running opposing order.

The Animus lets a user experience genetic memories inherited through an ancestor. Abstergo originally presents this technology as a tool for research and historical entertainment, but its leadership also seeks information and artifacts that can advance Templar goals. The corporation therefore links the historical and modern narratives.

In the first game, Desmond Miles is held by Abstergo and forced to use an Animus to relive Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's memories. Later games show different divisions, facilities, and products connected to Abstergo, including the commercial Helix system. Helix is a related platform, not the name of the corporation itself, which is why the two terms are often mixed up.
