The fake name used to conceal Jamie Campbell Bower’s season 4 role was Peter Ballard.
When Bower’s casting was announced, Peter Ballard was presented as a friendly orderly working at a psychiatric hospital. The description was deliberately ordinary, helping Netflix protect one of season 4’s central revelations: the orderly was actually Henry Creel, also known as Number One, who ultimately became Vecna.
The alias made the character’s early scenes seem like a storyline about Eleven’s past and the Hawkins laboratory rather than a direct introduction to the season’s principal villain. Viewers gradually learn that Ballard has a special connection to Eleven and the other test subjects, before the season’s flashbacks expose his identity and transformation.
Peter Ballard is therefore not a separate Stranger Things character in the usual sense. It is an assumed identity used by Henry Creel while he worked inside the laboratory. Fred Benson, Jason Carver, and Victor Creel are different characters connected to season 4’s plot.
