The earlier live-action Star Wars television project with more than 50 scripts by 2012 was Star Wars: Underworld. It was an ambitious, ultimately unproduced series developed under George Lucas and producer Rick McCallum.
The project was announced after Revenge of the Sith and was intended to explore the period between the prequel and original trilogies. Its stories were expected to focus on crime, politics, bounty hunters, and the underworld of the galaxy, rather than centering on the familiar film heroes.
By 2012, reports described more than 50 completed scripts or script drafts. The writing involved experienced television writers, including Ronald D. Moore. The project’s scale and expected production costs made it difficult to realize with the technology and television economics of the time.
Underworld is often confused with later live-action shows such as The Mandalorian or Andor because those series occupy similarly political or criminal corners of Star Wars. It never premiered, but ideas and visual concepts associated with its development influenced later Lucasfilm projects.
