What does the acronym 'ALA' stand for in Lamborghini?

The story behind the answer

In Lamborghini terminology, ALA stands for Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva. The Italian phrase translates roughly as “active Lamborghini aerodynamics” and names the company’s electronically controlled active-aerodynamic system.

ALA first became widely known on the Huracán Performante, where it used movable flaps and internal air channels in the front splitter and rear wing. Electronic actuators could open or close these passages according to driving conditions. The system reduced aerodynamic drag on straights while increasing downforce for cornering and braking.

The technology is not simply a conventional adjustable spoiler. Lamborghini’s system changes airflow through several parts of the car, working with the vehicle’s inertial platform and other control systems. On the Huracán Performante, the flaps could react in less than 500 milliseconds, helping the car balance acceleration, stability and cornering grip.

The term is sometimes incorrectly expanded into English phrases such as “Active Lamborghini Aerodynamics.” That describes the idea, but it is not the acronym’s official wording. ALA is Italian, and “ala” also means “wing” in Italian, making the name a deliberate piece of technical wordplay. Later applications, including ALA 2.0 on the Aventador SVJ, refined the same principle.
