What does Cinderella lose at the royal ball?

The story behind the answer

Cinderella loses her glass slipper while fleeing the royal ball.

The Fairy Godmother’s magic allows Cinderella to attend the palace celebration in a silver gown and glass slippers, but the enchantment ends at midnight. When the clock begins striking twelve, Cinderella rushes away before the Prince can learn her name.

As she runs down the palace staircase, one glass slipper slips from her foot. The Grand Duke finds it, and the King orders a kingdom-wide search for the woman whose foot fits it. Cinderella still has the other slipper, which becomes decisive when her stepfamily tries to prevent her from being tested.

A common mix-up is saying that Cinderella loses both shoes or simply loses “a shoe.” In this film, the famous object is specifically a glass slipper, and the surviving matching slipper proves her identity after the first one is accidentally broken.
