What creatures home does Gollum lure Frodo into?

Gollum lures Frodo into Shelob’s home, known as Shelob’s Lair. The enormous spider lives in Torech Ungol, a tunnel beneath the Pass of Cirith Ungol on the road into Mordor.

Gollum knows the passage and secretly intends for Shelob to kill Frodo so he can reclaim the One Ring. He presents the tunnel as a route around the defenses of Mordor, exploiting Frodo’s trust and the travelers’ need to reach the land of Sauron.

Shelob is not merely an ordinary spider: Tolkien describes her as an ancient descendant of giant spiders associated with Ungoliant. She attacks Frodo and paralyzes him, but Sam drives her away with the sword Sting and the light of Galadriel’s phial. The Watcher is a different monster guarding the Doors of Durin in Moria.
