What country is listed as The Good Place's country of origin?

The story behind the answer

The Good Place is listed as originating in the United States.

The series was created by American television writer and producer Michael Schur for NBC. It premiered in the United States on September 19, 2016, and ran for four seasons, ending on January 30, 2020. Its production companies included Fremulon, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Universal Television.

Although the show’s story takes place largely in an imaginative afterlife, its fictional neighborhoods are not the same thing as its production country. The characters come from different backgrounds: Eleanor is from Phoenix, Tahani is English, Chidi is Nigerian-Senegalese, and Jason is from Jacksonville, Florida. That international cast of characters can make the setting feel globally constructed, but the program itself is an American television series.

The show’s U.S. origin is also distinct from its distribution. In several international territories, including the United Kingdom, The Good Place was later made available through Netflix. That streaming arrangement did not change the series’ country of origin or its NBC production history.
