What country did King Hussein rule?

The story behind the answer

King Hussein ruled Jordan. Hussein bin Talal was Jordan’s king from 1952 until his death in 1999, making him one of the longest-serving modern Arab leaders. He became monarch as a teenager after his father, King Talal, was removed from the throne because of ill health.

Hussein’s reign covered several major turning points in Middle Eastern history, including the Suez Crisis, the 1967 Arab–Israeli War, the 1970 conflict known as Black September, and repeated efforts to negotiate peace with Israel. Jordan lost control of the West Bank during the 1967 war, and Hussein later relinquished Jordan’s legal claim to the territory in 1988.

He was succeeded by his eldest son, Abdullah II, who became king in 1999. A frequent source of confusion is that “King Hussein” can also refer to Hussein bin Ali, the Sharif of Mecca and leader associated with the Arab Revolt. The trivia answer refers to Hussein bin Talal, the Hashemite king of the modern country of Jordan.
