InGen operates Jurassic Park in the original 1993 film.
InGen is short for International Genetic Technologies, Inc., the fictional biotechnology company founded by John Hammond. Its scientists extract prehistoric DNA from mosquitoes preserved in amber and use genetic engineering to create dinosaurs for Hammond’s proposed attraction.
The company’s operations extend beyond the public park. InGen also maintains facilities and breeding programs on Isla Sorna, which becomes important in later films. The park’s financial and technical infrastructure depends on InGen employees, computer systems, security procedures, and genetic research.
Viewers sometimes confuse InGen with BioSyn, the rival company featured prominently in Jurassic World Dominion. They are separate fictional organizations. Masrani Global Corporation later owns and operates Jurassic World after acquiring InGen, but InGen remains the company responsible for the original dinosaur project.
