What color is the central star on the flag of Aruba?

The story behind the answer

The central star on the flag of Aruba is red.

Aruba’s flag has a red, four-pointed star outlined in white in the upper hoist corner of a blue field. Although it is often described as the flag’s central symbol, the star is not physically centered; it sits toward the upper-left, near the flagpole.

Aruba adopted the flag on 18 March 1976, a date now celebrated as National Anthem and Flag Day. Vexillologist Whitney Smith helped design it. The blue field represents the surrounding sea and sky, while two narrow yellow stripes symbolize Aruba’s distinct status and freedom within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The star’s four points represent the compass and Aruba’s internationally diverse population. Its red color also symbolizes love and recalls the island’s indigenous heritage. White, meanwhile, outlines the star and symbolizes peace, purity, and justice.
