What color is Chell's jumpsuit?

Chell is the silent protagonist of Valve’s Portal series and is presented as an Aperture Science test subject. Her orange jumpsuit makes her visually distinct against the facility’s pale walls, metal machinery, and sterile white test chambers. In the original Portal, the outfit is seen mainly through portals, reflections, and occasional third-person views because the game is played from a first-person perspective.

For Portal 2, Valve explored several redesigns, including changes to Chell’s clothing and overall appearance. The final design returned to the recognizable orange outfit, but tied the upper portion around her waist to suggest greater freedom of movement. This preserved continuity with the first game while giving the character a slightly different silhouette.

Players sometimes remember the white laboratory environment more strongly than Chell’s clothing, leading to confusion with white or blue. Green is not her canonical jumpsuit color either.
