What city is home to the Hockey Hall of Fame?

The story behind the answer

The city home to the Hockey Hall of Fame is Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The institution was founded in 1943 under the leadership of James T. Sutherland, but it was initially associated with Kingston, Ontario. Funding problems prevented Kingston from developing a permanent facility, and the NHL withdrew its support for that location in 1958.

The Hall moved to Toronto and opened its first permanent building at Exhibition Place in 1961. In 1993, it relocated downtown to the former Bank of Montreal building in Brookfield Place, near the intersection of Yonge and Front Streets. Its exhibits include historic players, teams, records, memorabilia and major trophies such as the Stanley Cup.

Ottawa, Montreal and Vancouver are all important Canadian hockey cities, but none is the Hall’s home. Toronto is also home to the NHL’s Maple Leafs, although the Hall of Fame is an independent museum rather than a team facility.
