What book collects C.S. Lewis’s 1940s radio talks about Christian belief?

The story behind the answer

Mere Christianity collects C.S. Lewis’s 1940s radio talks about Christian belief. The talks were broadcast by the BBC during and after the Second World War, then revised and published in book form.

The first group of talks became Broadcast Talks in 1942, followed by Christian Behaviour in 1943 and Beyond Personality in 1944. Lewis later combined and revised this material, producing Mere Christianity in 1952.

The book is not a denominational handbook. Its purpose is to present what Lewis regarded as common or “mere” Christianity shared across major historic Christian traditions, while leaving many church-specific disagreements aside.

The title is sometimes mistaken for the name of the original radio series. The broadcasts came first; Mere Christianity was the later consolidated volume.
