What animated spin-off followed Mister Rogers' Neighborhood in 2012?

The story behind the answer

The animated spin-off that followed Mister Rogers' Neighborhood in 2012 was Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. The series debuted on PBS Kids on September 3, 2012, eleven years after the original program ended its regular run.

Created by Angela C. Santomero, the show draws on Fred Rogers' Neighborhood of Make-Believe rather than simply recreating the old series. Daniel Tiger is the son of the original Daniel Striped Tiger, and other characters are descendants or younger relatives of familiar figures, including Katerina Kittycat, Miss Elaina, O the Owl, and Prince Wednesday.

The program uses short animated stories and recurring “strategy songs” to teach preschool viewers about emotions, friendship, patience, and problem-solving. It is sometimes confused with other PBS Kids programs such as Dinosaur Train or Arthur, but those shows are unrelated. Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood is specifically the successor series built around the world and educational philosophy associated with Mister Rogers.
