McDonald's launched “I'm Lovin' It” in 2003 as its first global brand campaign.
The campaign introduced a single English-language slogan and a distinctive five-note musical signature across many countries. McDonald's used localized advertising, but the central phrase and melody gave the corporation a more consistent worldwide identity.
The wording is often confused with older McDonald's slogans, especially “You Deserve a Break Today,” which belongs to an earlier campaign. “I'm Lovin' It” was also associated with a Justin Timberlake recording used in the campaign, although McDonald's branding was broader than that song.
The campaign marked a shift toward contemporary, lifestyle-focused advertising rather than relying mainly on product claims or McDonaldland characters.
