Mere Christianity
Answer
Mere Christianity
C.S. Lewis’s BBC talks were later published in 1952 under the title Mere Christianity.
Lewis delivered a series of radio talks during the Second World War, beginning in 1941. The broadcasts were intended to explain basic Christian ideas to a broad audience rather than promote one denomination. Their accessible style helped make Lewis a prominent public religious speaker in Britain.
The talks were revised and collected in stages. The first group appeared as The Case for Christianity in 1943, followed by Christian Behaviour in 1943 and Beyond Personality in 1944. The combined volume Mere Christianity was published in 1952.
The book presents what Lewis calls “mere Christianity,” meaning the central beliefs shared across historic Christian traditions. It is not the same work as The Problem of Pain, which was published in 1940 and addresses the problem of suffering.
