Under what pseudonym did J.K. Rowling write The Cuckoo’s Calling?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling wrote The Cuckoo’s Calling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

The crime novel was published in 2013 and introduced private detective Cormoran Strike and his temporary secretary, Robin Ellacott. It initially attracted modest attention because readers did not know that Galbraith was Rowling.

The author’s identity was revealed later in 2013 after a linguistic analysis and subsequent reporting connected the novel with Rowling. Rowling said she had wanted to publish without the immediate expectations attached to her name.

Robert Galbraith became the name used for the continuing Cormoran Strike series. The pseudonym is sometimes mistaken for a separate writer, but it is Rowling’s established crime-fiction pen name.
