The United Arab Emirates is located in Asia. It occupies the southeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula, on the coast of the Persian Gulf, placing it geographically in Western Asia and commonly in the Middle East.
The UAE shares land borders with Saudi Arabia and Oman. Its territory includes seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. Abu Dhabi is the federal capital, while Dubai is the country’s best-known commercial and tourism hub.
A common mix-up comes from the UAE’s cultural and economic links with North Africa, Europe and the wider Arab world. Those connections do not change its continental location. The country was formed as a federation on 2 December 1971, and Abu Dhabi and Dubai are among the emirates most familiar internationally.
