“Beating Heart” by Ellie Goulding was recorded for the soundtrack to the 2014 film Divergent.
The song was written specifically for the film and appeared on Divergent: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, released by Interscope Records on March 11, 2014. Goulding also contributed vocals to parts of the film’s score, produced by Junkie XL and executive-produced by Hans Zimmer.
Divergent is based on Veronica Roth’s 2011 young-adult novel and stars Shailene Woodley as Tris Prior, a teenager in a society divided into factions. The song’s emotional lyrics and electronic-pop production match the film’s themes of identity, fear, and rebellion.
