The Sea to Sky Highway is a section of which British Columbia highway?
Answer
Highway 99
Answer
Highway 99
The Sea to Sky Highway is a section of British Columbia Highway 99.
The scenic corridor runs for about 134 kilometres from Horseshoe Bay, west of Vancouver, through Squamish and Whistler to Pemberton. It follows Howe Sound and the dramatic Coast Mountains, giving the route its name: travelers move from the coastal “sea” toward the alpine “sky.”
Highway 99 itself is much longer than the Sea to Sky section. It extends from the Canada–United States border near Surrey northward through Greater Vancouver, then continues beyond Pemberton via Duffey Lake Road toward Lillooet and Cache Creek. That broader route is why calling the entire highway the Sea to Sky Highway is a common mistake.
The corridor received major reconstruction before the 2010 Winter Olympics, improving safety and capacity for travel between Vancouver and Whistler. Its winding mountain scenery and access to outdoor destinations have made it one of British Columbia’s best-known road-trip routes.
