The Panama Canal connects the Atlantic Ocean with which other ocean?

The story behind the answer

The Panama Canal connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean.

The 82-kilometre waterway crosses the Isthmus of Panama and allows ships to avoid sailing around the southern tip of South America. Its lock system raises ships to Gatun Lake and then lowers them toward the opposite coast.

Construction by the United States was completed in 1914, after an earlier French attempt failed. The canal was transferred fully to Panama on 31 December 1999 under the Torrijos–Carter Treaties. Although commonly described as joining the Atlantic and Pacific, its Caribbean entrance is technically connected to the Atlantic Ocean.
