The movie, "Batman Returns", was directed by whom?

The story behind the answer

The movie Batman Returns was directed by Tim Burton. Released in 1992, it was Burton’s second Batman film after the commercially successful Batman (1989), and it reunited him with Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne and Batman. The sequel added Danny DeVito as the Penguin, Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, and Christopher Walken as businessman Max Shreck.

Burton returned after securing greater creative control, allowing the film to take a darker and more stylized approach than many traditional comic-book adventures. The story unfolds during Christmas in Gotham City, where the Penguin seeks political power while Selina Kyle becomes Catwoman after a traumatic confrontation with Shreck. Daniel Waters wrote the screenplay, building a story focused heavily on damaged identities, social exclusion, and theatrical visual design.

Some viewers confuse Batman Returns with Batman Forever, the 1995 follow-up. Burton did not direct that film; Joel Schumacher took over, and Val Kilmer replaced Keaton as Batman. Danny Elfman also returned to score Burton’s sequel, extending the gothic musical style established in the first movie.
