The Egyptian Book of the Dead Papyrus of Ani was created during which dynasty?

The story behind the answer

The Papyrus of Ani was created during Egypt’s Nineteenth Dynasty.

This beautifully illustrated funerary manuscript belonged to Ani, a Theban royal scribe and official who lived during the New Kingdom. It contains spells intended to protect the deceased and guide him through the afterlife, including the famous scene of Anubis weighing Ani’s heart before Osiris.

The Nineteenth Dynasty ruled from about 1292 to 1189 BCE and included rulers such as Ramesses II. The manuscript is written in hieroglyphs on papyrus and is now held by the British Museum. Its modern name comes from Ani, not from the scribe who made the manuscript.

A common mix-up is to date every famous Book of the Dead papyrus to the same period. In fact, copies were produced over many centuries, and the Papyrus of Ani is specifically a New Kingdom example from the Nineteenth Dynasty.
