The British television show Dragons' Den is adapted from which Japanese business reality show?

The story behind the answer

The British television show Dragons' Den is adapted from the Japanese business reality show Money no Tora.

Money no Tora, whose title is commonly translated as “Money Tigers,” was created in Japan as a format in which entrepreneurs presented business proposals to wealthy investors. The investors decided whether to provide funding in exchange for a stake in the business.

The concept was later licensed internationally, producing versions such as Dragons' Den and Shark Tank. The names and branding differ by country, but the central pitch-and-investment structure remains recognisable. A common mix-up is to identify Shark Tank as the original format; Shark Tank is an American adaptation of the same Japanese concept, not the source programme.
