The 2015–16 season was the New York Islanders’ first season played in Brooklyn. The team moved from Nassau Coliseum to Barclays Center, a new arena in the borough that it shared with the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets.
The Islanders’ first regular-season game at Barclays Center took place on October 9, 2015, against the Chicago Blackhawks. Chicago won 3–2 in overtime, making the game a memorable opening chapter even though New York did not win it.
The move ended the Islanders’ long run at Nassau Coliseum, their home since the franchise entered the NHL in 1972. The Brooklyn arrangement lasted only several seasons, and the club eventually returned to Long Island, playing home games at Nassau Coliseum and then UBS Arena.
“Brooklyn” is the expected quiz answer, although “Barclays Center” is the more specific venue. The question asks where the season was played, so the borough name is a fair canonical response.
