The 2013 Peugeot Onyx concept car had a body partly made of what material?

The story behind the answer

The 2013 Peugeot Onyx concept car had body panels partly made of copper. Peugeot used hand-formed, polished sheets of pure copper for the doors and front fenders, contrasting them with matte-black carbon-fiber sections.

The Onyx was unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and represented Peugeot’s vision of a lightweight, high-performance hybrid supercar. Its dramatic materials were not merely decorative. The untreated copper was intended to change appearance naturally, developing a patina as it aged rather than being protected by a conventional clear coating.

Under the skin, the Onyx combined a carbon-fiber body structure with a mid-mounted 3.7-liter V8 diesel engine and hybrid assistance. Peugeot quoted roughly 600 horsepower, while the concept weighed about 1,100 kilograms, giving it an unusually strong power-to-weight ratio.

Carbon fiber is therefore also associated with the Onyx, but it is not the quiz’s best answer: carbon fiber formed other body sections, while copper was the distinctive exposed material. Titanium and aluminum were not the signature body materials highlighted by Peugeot.
