The 2004 Chrysler ME Four-Twelve concept car’s engine has 12 cylinders.
The answer is built into the name: “ME” refers to mid-engine, “Four” identifies the four turbochargers, and “Twelve” denotes the cylinder count. Chrysler fitted the concept with a modified 6.0-liter Mercedes-Benz M120 V12 engine, giving the car an unusually elaborate powertrain for an American performance concept.
The engine received strengthened internal components and revised intake and exhaust hardware to cope with forced induction. Its four turbochargers were central to the car’s identity and helped produce extremely high output for the period. Power was sent through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to the rear wheels.
The ME Four-Twelve was unveiled at the 2004 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It was engineered as a serious high-performance demonstrator, but Chrysler never placed it into regular production. The “Four” in its name can therefore cause confusion: it describes turbochargers, not cylinders.
