The 2003 Toyota PM concept car had how many seats?

The story behind the answer

The 2003 Toyota PM concept car had one seat. Toyota designed the PM, or Personal Mobility, as a one-person vehicle rather than a conventional car for carrying multiple occupants.

Its cabin and seat were shaped to fit the driver closely, making the experience more like “wearing” the vehicle than driving an ordinary automobile. Toyota treated the PM as an extension of the individual, combining ergonomic design with electronic controls and visual communication systems.

The concept was shown at the October 2003 Tokyo Motor Show. Its technology-focused design allowed the cabin to change posture for entry and exit or for travel at different speeds. Toyota also imagined PM vehicles communicating with one another and forming mobile groups that could meet, link, and socialize.

The word “car” can make people expect two or four seats, but the PM’s purpose was personal mobility. Its single-seat layout is therefore a defining feature, not an omission or a prototype limitation.
