Answer
Gullwing doors
Answer
Gullwing doors
The 1991 Mazda AZ-1 concept car had gullwing doors. Its doors were hinged at the roof and opened upward, creating the distinctive appearance associated with the tiny mid-engined sports car.
The AZ-1 began as a Suzuki-designed concept called the Suzuki Cara prototype before Mazda developed it for production. The finished Autozam AZ-1, introduced in Japan in 1992, used a lightweight body with a steel safety structure and outer panels made largely from composite material. It was powered by a small turbocharged engine supplied by Suzuki.
Gullwing doors are hinged along the roof edge, unlike scissor doors, which pivot upward from hinges near the front pillars. Butterfly doors rotate upward and outward, while suicide doors are hinged at the rear edge and open in the opposite direction from conventional front-hinged doors. The AZ-1’s compact dimensions and roof-hinged doors made entry distinctive, though they also required sufficient overhead clearance.
