The 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car later became which famous TV vehicle?

The story behind the answer

The 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car later became the 1966 Batmobile.

Ford's Lincoln division built the Futura as a dramatic futuristic prototype. Designed by John Najjar and Bill Schmidt and hand-built by Carrozzeria Ghia in Turin, Italy, it cost about $250,000 and was the only Futura ever produced.

After appearing on the auto-show circuit and in the 1959 film It Started with a Kiss, the car was sold to customizer George Barris. When the Batman television production needed a vehicle in 1966, Barris recognized that the Futura's twin fins, bubble-like canopy, and exaggerated bodywork already suggested a comic-book machine.

Barris and metalworker Bill Cushenbery modified the car into the iconic Batmobile. The original Futura-based car was retained by Barris and later sold at auction in 2013 for $4.62 million. Several fiberglass replicas were also built, which is why “the Batmobile” can refer to more than one show-related vehicle.
