Since 2020, which hardcourt surface brand has the Australian Open used?

The story behind the answer

Since 2020, the Australian Open has used GreenSet as its hardcourt surface brand.

The tournament moved from grass to hard courts when it relocated to Melbourne Park in 1988. Its first Melbourne Park surface was green Rebound Ace, used through 2007. Plexicushion then replaced it from 2008 through 2019, bringing the familiar blue playing courts.

GreenSet became the tournament’s official court-surface supplier for the 2020 Australian Open. The change was primarily a supplier and construction change: the courts retained their blue appearance, so spectators did not see the dramatic color shift associated with the earlier move from Rebound Ace to Plexicushion.

A common mix-up is confusing the brand with the color. GreenSet is the surface system’s brand, while the Australian Open courts are blue. GreenSet courts are acrylic hardcourts built in layers over an asphalt or concrete base and are used at other major events, including the Cincinnati and Paris Masters.
