Saudi Aramco, one of the world's largest companies by market cap, is headquartered in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
The company is officially known as Saudi Arabian Oil Company. Its roots trace to the concession granted to Standard Oil of California in 1933, followed by the discovery of commercial oil at Dammam Well No. 7 in 1938.
Dhahran developed as a major center for Saudi Arabia's petroleum industry. Saudi Aramco manages exploration, production, processing, transport, and marketing operations across a huge energy network.
Saudi Aramco became publicly listed on the Saudi Exchange in 2019, when the initial public offering sold shares to investors. It remains majority owned by the Saudi government. Dhahran and nearby Dammam are separate cities, although both are important urban centers in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province.
