Portal's Android port was released via which Nvidia device?
Answer
Nvidia Shield
Answer
Nvidia Shield
Portal’s Android port was released via the Nvidia Shield device. Nvidia announced the port in 2014, bringing Valve’s 2007 puzzle game to Android through its Shield gaming hardware rather than releasing it broadly for ordinary Android phones and tablets.
The Shield was designed around Nvidia’s Tegra hardware and physical game controls, which suited Portal’s first-person movement and precise portal placement better than touchscreen-only play. The Android version was handled in cooperation with Nvidia and was initially restricted to Shield-compatible devices.
A common mix-up is confusing the Shield port with game-streaming services such as GeForce Now. GeForce Now streams games from remote servers or a PC; the Shield version of Portal was an actual Android conversion. Steam Link likewise streams a game from another computer and was not the device associated with Portal’s original Android release.
Portal later appeared on additional platforms, including Nintendo Switch as part of Portal: Companion Collection in 2022. That release is separate from the earlier Shield-based Android port.
