Pop-Tarts toaster pastries are made by which American food company?
Answer
Kellogg's
Answer
Kellogg's
Pop-Tarts toaster pastries are made by Kellogg's, now operating under the corporate name Kellanova. Kellogg's introduced the brand in the United States in 1964.
The idea followed Post's announcement of Country Squares, another toaster pastry that reached stores shortly afterward as Toast'em Pop Ups. Kellogg's developed its competing product quickly, initially calling it Fruit Scones before choosing Pop-Tarts, a name inspired by the Pop Art movement.
Each Pop-Tart consists of a sweet filling sealed between two thin pastry layers, often topped with frosting. They are fully cooked before packaging, so toasting warms and crisps them rather than cooking them from raw. Most varieties are sold in pairs and do not require refrigeration.
A common mix-up is confusing the brand with Post, which helped pioneer the toaster-pastry category. Kellogg's acquired the central Pop-Tarts identity, and the brand became one of its best-known products. In 2023, Kellogg's North American cereal and snack businesses were separated into Kellanova and WK Kellogg Co.; Pop-Tarts belongs to Kellanova.
