On which Sunday of August is Father's Day usually celebrated in Brazil?

The story behind the answer

Brazil usually celebrates Father's Day on the second Sunday of August.

Known as Dia dos Pais, the Brazilian observance was introduced in the 1950s. Publicist Sylvio Bhering promoted the date, and the celebration became established as an annual family occasion. Brazilian families commonly exchange gifts, share meals, and recognize fathers and other important father figures.

The Brazilian calendar differs from the June observance familiar in the United States and much of Europe. Because the date is defined by a Sunday within August, its numbered calendar date changes from year to year. The second Sunday can fall anywhere from August 8 through August 14.

Brazil's date is also easy to confuse with Mother's Day there, which is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. Both holidays use a Sunday-based rule, but they occur in different months. The answer therefore refers to the position of the Sunday, not a fixed date such as August 10.
