The Great British Bake Off originally aired on BBC Two.
The first episode was broadcast on August 17, 2010, when the programme launched as a competition for amateur bakers. Its first four series remained on BBC Two, where the show steadily grew from a modest new programme into one of the channel’s biggest hits.
The success eventually prompted the BBC to move the series to BBC One for series five in 2014. After seven series, producer Love Productions reached a deal with Channel 4, and the programme moved there in 2017 with new presenters and judge Prue Leith joining Paul Hollywood. That later move often causes confusion, but it does not change the original broadcaster. In the United States, the series is commonly marketed as The Great British Baking Show because “Bake-Off” is a Pillsbury trademark there.
