On which mountain did Noah’s Ark traditionally come to rest?

The story behind the answer

Noah’s Ark is traditionally said to have come to rest on Mount Ararat. Genesis itself says the ark rested on the “mountains of Ararat,” while the single peak commonly identified with that description is Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey.

The biblical wording is plural, so it does not explicitly name one summit. “Ararat” refers to an ancient region associated with Urartu, and later Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions connected the ark with the prominent mountain now called Mount Ararat. This traditional identification became especially influential in European culture.

Mount Ararat is a large volcanic massif with two principal peaks, Greater Ararat and Lesser Ararat. Numerous expeditions have searched for physical evidence of the ark, but no discovery has been accepted by archaeologists as proof that the biblical vessel survived there. The mountain identification is therefore a traditional interpretation, not a confirmed archaeological finding.
