On which mountain did Noah's Ark come to rest according to the traditional name?

The story behind the answer

According to the traditional name, Noah's Ark came to rest on Mount Ararat.

Genesis 8:4 actually says that the ark came to rest on the “mountains of Ararat,” a regional description rather than an explicit statement naming one modern peak. Mount Ararat is the traditional identification and the name most commonly associated with the ark in popular culture.

Mount Ararat is a snow-capped volcanic massif in eastern Turkey, near the borders of Armenia and Iran. Its highest summit rises to 5,137 metres, making it Turkey's tallest mountain. Archaeological and expedition claims about finding the ark have repeatedly attracted attention, but no discovery has been scientifically verified as the biblical vessel. The wording “mountains of Ararat” is therefore important: it is more precise to distinguish the biblical regional phrase from the later traditional association with the single mountain.
