On which Italian island is the Rally Italia Sardegna held?

Rally Italia Sardegna is held on the Italian island of Sardinia. The event is the modern Italian round of the World Rally Championship and is known for narrow, twisty and abrasive gravel roads that cross the island’s mountainous interior.

The rally was first organised in 2004, replacing Rallye Sanremo as Italy’s WRC event. Its early headquarters were in Olbia on Sardinia’s northeast coast, while Alghero became the main base from 2014. Later arrangements allowed the service park and rally headquarters to alternate between Alghero and Olbia.

Sardinia’s terrain gives the rally a distinctive character. Roads are often lined by vegetation, bordered by rough rock surfaces and made slippery by loose gravel. Heat and dust can also make tyre management especially important, while the island’s compact layout helps create a concentrated but technically demanding itinerary.

The name itself prevents the most common geographical mistake: this is not Rally Sicily, Rally Corsica or a race held in Malta. Sardinia is Italy’s second-largest island, located west of the Italian Peninsula and south of Corsica. The event is also commonly shortened to Rally Sardinia.
