On which German imageboard did the first Polandball comics appear?

The first Polandball comics appeared on the German imageboard Krautchan.

The earliest comics were posted on krautchan.net by a British user known as Falco. They were created partly to troll a Polish user called Wojak, who was associated with the site and wrote in deliberately mocked broken English. Poland was drawn as a ball bearing an inverted Polish flag, a visual mistake that became one of the genre’s defining conventions.

Other Krautchan users soon expanded the format beyond Poland, turning countries into flag-covered characters that acted out jokes about international relations, history, stereotypes, and geopolitics. The deliberately crude Microsoft Paint style helped make the comics easy for others to imitate.

The meme later spread beyond Krautchan, especially through Facebook and Reddit. “Polandball” and “Countryballs” are now often used interchangeably, although communities on different platforms developed their own rules about drawing style, grammar, and acceptable themes. Krautchan is therefore the answer for the format’s first known imageboard home, not the later communities that popularized it.
