On which fictional planet does World of Warcraft take place?

The story behind the answer

World of Warcraft takes place on the fictional planet Azeroth. Azeroth is the primary setting of the Warcraft universe and the home of many of the game’s major peoples, regions, conflicts, and storylines.

The planet was introduced as part of Warcraft’s setting in Warcraft: Orcs & Humans in 1994, then became far more fully explored in the 2004 MMORPG. Players travel through locations including the Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, Northrend, and other regions added through expansions. The Alliance and Horde are the game’s two central rival factions, although their relationships and alliances change across the story.

Draenor is the main world associated with the orcs before and after its transformation into Outland, so it is an understandable wrong answer. Norrath belongs to EverQuest, while Sanctuary is the setting of Diablo. Azeroth is also sometimes used in older Warcraft material for a human kingdom, but in World of Warcraft it primarily denotes the planet.
