On which console was the original Metal Gear Solid released in 1998?

The story behind the answer

The original Metal Gear Solid was released on PlayStation in 1998.

Developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan and directed by Hideo Kojima, the game revived the Metal Gear series with 3D graphics, cinematic storytelling, and stealth-focused gameplay. It launched in Japan in September 1998, followed by North American and European releases in 1998 and 1999.

Metal Gear Solid is sometimes confused with the earlier MSX2 games Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Those titles established the series’ stealth foundations, but the 1998 PlayStation game introduced the series to a much wider global audience. Its success helped make stealth action a major console genre and led to expanded editions, including Metal Gear Solid: Integral and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes.
