The UK television show Dragon's Den originally launched on BBC Two.
The programme premiered in 2005 as a British adaptation of the international Dragons' Den format. Entrepreneurs present business ideas to wealthy investors, known as dragons, and seek funding in exchange for an ownership stake in their company.
BBC Two was the channel associated with the show's original run and helped establish it as a major factual-entertainment programme. It later became one of the BBC's best-known business series, combining pitching, negotiation and personal finance in a studio setting.
A common mix-up is confusing the British programme with Shark Tank, the American adaptation of the same broad format. The British title uses “dragons”, while the US version uses “sharks”; both ultimately descend from the Japanese format Money Tigers.
