The UK television series Dragon's Den first began broadcasting on BBC Two.
The programme premiered in 2005 as a British adaptation of an international business format. Entrepreneurs enter a studio and present their companies to a panel of wealthy investors, asking for money in exchange for equity. The BBC placed the show on BBC Two, where its combination of business advice, negotiation and dramatic pitches quickly built a large audience.
BBC Two has been associated with many factual, documentary and specialist entertainment programmes, making it a natural home for a format focused on entrepreneurship rather than conventional celebrity competition. Dragon's Den later became one of the channel's best-known factual entertainment brands.
The programme is sometimes confused with the similarly formatted Shark Tank in the United States, but Dragon's Den is the British version and began on BBC Two. BBC One is the BBC's main general-entertainment channel, while Channel 4 and ITV are separate broadcasters.
